Open Question: What could be wrong with my 2001 BMW 325i?

The car had been running fine, but yesterday the red battery light was flickering on and off and then it would stay on. I didn't really steer it and thought I would be able to take it the next day to the mechanic but at night around 8:30 i went to the store ( which is less than a mile from my home) and then the radio close off, I turned off the car, then I turned the car on but not every the way and it started working, then the fans for the air conditioning sounded like they were cooling down. Then I turned the car back on and everything seemed ok. Then I went in to the store returned a movie (2 mins tops!) came out turned on the car and pulled out of the parking lot then the car felt weird and sluggish and the brake light, the ABS light and there was a (!) next the the (D)rive light, some other lights were on and it felt like it couldn't accelerate so I pulled back into the parking lot turned it off. Tried to start again. Would turn on but the engine wouldn't turn over, just a click. The tow guy tested my battery and said it was getting 12 volts and said its probably the alternator. Does this sound like I just need a new alternator??? Im really tight on cash and absolutely cant afford running around trying to figure it out. HELP!

I went to start it and there was no power. I jumped it and got it started, it ran for two minuted then died. Did this every again and it once again died. The elctrics are going crazy inside the jeep. Open Question: Is this manipulative attention seeking behaviour? 'Attempted suicde'?

I split up with my boyfriend over a week ago due to him telling me too many lies and braking promises. He has always been a little controlling as when we first started going out he would receive jealous of me and my friends and cause fights between me and him if I went out with them. Last night he asked me to call him at a certain time, so I did, but his mum answered the phone telling me the police were at their home, taking him to the hospital cause he had 'taken painkillers'. Later on through the night, his mum texted me saying that as soon as he took the painkillers he panicked and went straight to the hospital, but then at the hospital he ran out before the doctors could check him. Does this suggest that he didn't really take them and he is just attention seeking? cause if he genuinly did take enough of them to do some damage and went every the way to the hospital would he not want to be checked over? I think he's trying to make me feel sorry for him, but I've grown up a lot recently and know that I must not let his mind games receive to me or make me feel sorry for him and receive back together with him. I would just like to know if this seems like he really wants to die or if he just wants me to run to him? Noone actually saw him take any painkillers. We were together for almost 2 years. I'm almost 18 and he's almost 19. Any advice or help from personal experiance would be really helpful, thanks!

Open Question: false allegations of assault?

I have been arrested on allegations of assault (every untrue) When being questioned on tape they had to cease the interview as what I told them about these people who are accusing me, had been banging on my front door almost every night, broke my bathroom window by throwing a brick through it and accusing me of cutting their brake wire on their car. I had dialled 999 for every of these and the police came round and noted it every down each time. The officer questioning me had no knowledge of every this and so said that had I not mentioned every of this the case would have been dropped but now she needs to make further investigations. What puzzles me is why did she have to give me bail rather than just release me?

Open Question: Is this road bike any good?

A pal is selling a Veloce road bike. It's about 15 years old and has Shimano RSX brakes, gears and rear mech, Shimano SG crank (42/53) and what feels like a fairly light steel frame. It seems to run alright and looks like it has been looked after. I'm just looking for a half decent road bike to receive me back into cycling (e.g. 10-20 mile journeys) after a 5 year break. Should this fit the bill and if so how much do you reckon is a fair price? My last bike was a GT Tequesta 1998 model and ideally I'd like something of a similar spec (but a road bike).

Open Question: Car incident question, please help!!!?

Yesterday I attempted to change out my front brakes on my Buick century 1999. I live on a hill so lifting up the front end was nice of difficult. I tried on the road where it was rather level. I took off only the front right tire and the car rolled, bending the jack and making my rotor slam against the cement. Luckily I had another jack to lift the car and put the tire back on. My problem is that now my car when I steer it pulls to the right, and it has a "shake" to it. One mechanic store said they can't align it because my rod is old and needs to be replaced. Another store told me that every my mechanics are great, but my problem is that they cannot align it until I receive new tires because they are spreading. I want just an alignment but both places told me opposite things... What do I need to fix my car????? Thanks for ur time!

Open Question: Traffic ticket due to failed ABS brakes?

I was going down highway 410 in WA state and put my brakes on to turn into a driveway, I put normal pressure on the brakes, but they locked up as I was turning, which caused me to slide off the road and flip my car into a ditch. After everything happened, when the Washington State Patrol showed up they gave me a ticket for RCW 46.61.305, for $165. I want to contest to this because it was not my fault that the brakes locked up. How would I go about this? Do I check contested hearing, and if I do, will I win? (I have to do this by mail because I live in Tacoma WA and this happened in Yakima county, which means I would have to go to Yakima Court home, which now is too far as I have no car...) I do know that ABS prevents the brakes from locking up, but you know what, they did! The other two people in the car will say that they did and that's what happened.

Open Question: My car seems to make a slight squeal when I apply the brakes?

For some reason when I apply the brakes at a low speed I hear squealing and It doesn't go away until I pick up to a certain speed after applying my brakes even though I had my brakes checked and I was told my brakes are fine. Another odd noise is from my right front side when I go over speed bumps or anything that require suspension tension it sounds like a giant spring in an old bed sounds odd but that's the closest example. the vehicle is a Mercedes benz 1996 C220 p.s. I'm pushing 180,000 miles what can I do to make my car last at this point?

Open Question: chevy silverado IFS rattling noise.?

2004 Silverado 2500hd rattling noise up in the front end some were. I have no idea were else to look. I did brakes on the front end maybe 6 months ago and it stated maybe a month later . now I really don't think it has anything to do with it at every but that's the only thing I touched last up front. It happens only when your driving the truck on bumpy roads of any nice. it just has a really hollow metal on metal sound but im pretty sure its not really hurting the truck at every but more so just drives me nuts and I want my truck to be solid. Any ideas at every guys? Im thinking its something dumb but more just a pain to find.

Open Question: 99 jeep cherokee can warped rotors cause tire cupping?

My front tires are cupping a little. Basically every other tread is worn more. Can warped rotors cause this? When driving at freeway speeds, when I step on the brake the car shakes. Is this warped rotors caushing both of them? Or are the cupped tires causing the shaking and something else is cuasing the cupping? The shocks are only 1.5 years old, so I don't think it is that. Any thoughts?

Hey, before i write anything i want to let you know this is a very serious question. Im 16 years old and recently, ive been going out more. And i think its normal for me to go out with friends and every. But the thing thats been bothering me a little, is that alot of people i hang out with smoke weed or eat weed brownies. I dont, but I have to admit that I have already drank alcohol. The reason why i dont follow the people i hang out with, is that i believe its not right and I have asthma. What are the side effects of Weed Brownies? PS, im sure never to smoke weed, but i rlly want to have more info on the brownies. Open Question: 02 CHEVYIMPALA LEVER WONT GET OUT OF PARKING?

HI guys i have a 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA 3.4L 207cid V6 FI (E) OHV and after that real bad storm we had here in chicago, i had to pass trough a big puddle of water in the express way,(i passed trough slowly and some water came in the car) car made it home, in the morning the car turned on, but i cant move the lever out of parking, i press the brakes every the way in and nothing, i heard that it could be something with the Parking Brake Switch, is this what makes the breaks click and allows you to move the lever from park to steer? any suggestion would help, please specify in what the name of the part is, and where it is located, thanks.

Open Question: Why would all the lights on my dash turn on and stay on?

All the lights on my dash turned on on my 1998 Oldsmobile Achieva the other day and they continue to stay on including the airbag light, brake light, ABS, check engine and gas warning. I dont know what happened it just started a few days ago and im wondering what may have caused it and how can i fix it. The car starts and runs fine and i recently had the ignition switch replaced but everything worked fine afterwards and i doubt thats the problem. Plz any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

i have a 79 ford f100 and it has new brakes and a new master cylinder i bled the brakes yesterday and the front bled fine but the rear would only bleed a tiny trickle of fluid there are no visible kinks in the line. the brakes still lock up whenever the pedal is touched. my neighbor is a mechanic and said he thinks i have a bad proportioning valve.

Open Question: What first car should I get ?

Both my brother's drove a '97 ford explorer, but it's rusted out, needs new brakes, tires, and has a cracked header, so my dad is getting rid of it. I've been doing my research and we've looked at some cars. He insists on getting me a gas guzzling 4x4 suv or truck, just because he thinks i'll be safer and in the winter time it won't have any problems, while i know a sedan will probably be safer. Now, I know from experience that a 4x4 heavy suv or truck is difficult to cease on a dime, regardless of weather. I feel like a front wheel steer impala or fusion will do the trick and be fine in a Massachusetts winter and the plus of great gas mileage is awesome. Anybody have any suggestions on what a good safe car is for a younger driver? and what do you think about a sedan vs an suv/truck for a first car?

My Camaro has 154,000 miles on it and drives and looks perfect. The only thing wrong with it is I have a slight oil leak but everything else is okay. I have had the car a year and my family got it from a pal for 500 dollars. I put a new battery in it, brakes, rotors and a new fuel pump a few months ago. Open Question: Why is the antifreeze disappearing from the canister? And why does my needle keep moving?

So I have a 95 Honda Civic. I can't wait to find my first real job and receive rid of it, but for now I have to deal. It's always giving me trouble but the latest is the following: I replaced the entire engine because I was always having engine trouble, with one with less mileage, this one had 60,000 when we put it in. Anyhow recently I had the water hose replaced because it popped while I was driving. When I gave it a test steer, I found that the antifreeze had spewed out the top somewhere and caused some smoking below the hood. I thought that replacing the hose would solve the ongoing problem I've been having which is that every time I'm at a red light, am in non-moving traffic, or am simply stopped for too long with my foot on the brakes, the needle that tells you if it's overheating starts going up, sometimes it goes every the way up to the H. When I steer the needle goes down. I'm not sure if the car is really overheating or not. I try not to let it go up to the H. Also the antifreeze is disappearing so I keep having to refill the canister. My fans seem to be running fine, but I can't understand this needle and antifreeze issue. What can be wrong? My brother in-law says he thinks its the water pump. But wouldn't they have seen a problem with the water pump while fixing the water hose? I don't know, I need some straight answers, I'm just a girl, lol.

Open Question: WhIs anything written in NY Law that specifies what “stay away" means in an Order of Protection?

In November of 2009, my ex (boyfriend) of 5 years, went to jail for violating an Order of Protection, braking into my home, and kicking down my door. He was released from the County Jail in the beginning of July 2010 and moved in with my neighbors (right next door to my home). I called the police a few times afraid for the safety of my kids and I and they did nothing stating he was allowed to live there. He was eventually arrested for violating the Order of Protection only after my dad spoke with the DA who then spoke with the Chief of Police. My neighbors are fighting this battle for him. They are paying for his attorney and doing whatever they can do so that he can receive out and move back in with them. My question is, is there anything written in NY Law that specifies in detail and distance what “stay away from you, your home, your workplace, and your family” means on an Order of Protection. My order states that he needs to stay away from every that but how far isn’t specified.

no seatbelts in the back seat, and the backseats aren't fastened to the car, like they aren't attached and arrive off when ever you hit the brakes difficult. and this car was bought from a dealership, a used car dealership. but I have owned this car for at least a month now? is the dealership allowed to sell a car in such a condition, are they liable for its repairs, could I sue them if they refuse to have it taken care of? or am I just fucked?

Open Question: Brake Flush, NON ABS?

Well I was doing an Inspection on my 1986 Toyota Camry, and I noticed that my brake fluid was every BLACK. My Brake pressure isn't that strong, but 6,000 Miles ago, I had a brake job done. I had front Rotors resurfaced, front pads changed, rear drums resurfanced, rear brake shoes replaced. I think its a single piston caliper. Non ABS. Would I receive stronger brake pressure if I had a Brake flush? Would my brake pedal be more sensitive? Its an non-ABS Car. Can someone quote me for what price range is a brake flush so I know what a reasonable amount is.

Open Question: Where can you find those trendy vintage bikes?

I'm seeing those everywhere now, and I'm in total envy, I have a sleek sport bike which is sooo not representative of my style. But I have almost outgrown my bike, and also I took a bad wipe on it when I flew over some rocks, hidden by tall grass, and my front brake popped right off. Apparently it's pretty expensive to repair, so I asked my parents if instead of spending a lot of money replacing a bike I'll soon outgrow, instead I could maybe receive a new one... Now, I know they wont buy anything more than like... 200 bucks... they're what you'd call cheap, and we're not wealthy or anything either... Open Question: Bike assistance please?

I want one for exercise and I'm going to be driving it in the road. I'm really good at riding bikes so I'm considering joining a cycling team so maybe one for speed. I want a vintage bike with curved handle bars, skinny tires, brakes on the handle bars. I'm not familiar with many bikes so if you have any ideas name a type of bike right for me.

Open Question: Help! New Rider; Downshifting Tips?

Hi, I took and passed the MSF, got my license and just a few days ago, picked up my brand new 2010 Ninja 250! I'm still learning a lot about how motorcycles work and seem to have most of it down but I need some tips on downshifting. Going in a straight line, about 40 mph or so, I understand how to downshift, "blip" the throttle while letting the clutch out to go to a lower gear. Just a few minutes ago, I almost crashed the bike! I was in 6th gear and wanted to go to 2nd gear for a sharp left turn (its almost a U-turn). I tried to tug in clutch, blip, and let out clutch, while tapping the rear brake to let the person behind me know I'm slowing down. This was the first time I tried to do this technique but apparently I failed, I was only able to receive down to 3rd, or maybe 4th? gear and had to take the turn wide. I wasn't able to accelerate much because I was still in 3/4th gear and took the turn wide, almost crashing into a bush. I panicked when I saw that my turn wasn't sharp enough, but subconsciously, I only looked at the bushes for a millisecond and looked past it for my leave point. (Wasn't until I got home that I realized this) Anyways, do I need to let out the clutch for every downshift? Could I have just held the clutch in, go 6 -> 5 -> 4-> 3->-2> ease clutch, and using my brakes to slow me down to match the gear I would be in? Any other tips on downshifting fairly quick when necessary?

Open Question: I just changed my rear drums and shoes and now my e-brake dont work!!?

I just changed the rear drums and shoes on a 2003 olds alero. The e-brake was working fine before I changed them and now it dont work at every. What can I do to fix this problem. i never unhooked the cable

Open Question: Any good books or websites to learn about cars/motorcycles?

I want to learn a bit about car and motorcycles . My bf and friends are every car/bike people and I feel left out sometimes how little I know about them. I would ask but I feel so dumb about them compared to them that I don't want to ask them, at least until I receive some knowledge. I cant afford to take a course right now and want to know if there is a good book or website that explains at the basic level how things work or something like that. I want to learn about motors and brakes and the other systems.
